In addition to boiling the water, in effect, killing bacteria; it filters, descales & dechlorinates it. Koreans drink plain hot water or tea & make soup year round. Therefore, they tend to need a lot of hot water often. A water boiler keeps water at the temp setting of your choice, so there's no need to constantly re-microwave or re-boil. It holds several liters. Easier than water coolers or thermos dispensers. Simply pour in the water. It does everything else for you: gauges water level, senses temp & reboils as needed. Great for cooking. Most brands are Japanese.
